O’s rally past Royals, 5-3

The Baltimore Orioles battled back throughout the game before rallying in the ninth inning for a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals.

The Orioles used a pinch-hit double down the left field line from Felix Pie to tie the game, and then won it on a walk-off home run to dead center field off the bat of Adam Jones.

The bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, with Jeremy Accardo, Clay Rapada and Alfredo Simon combining to keep the Orioles right in the game.

Rookie sensation Zach Britton clearly didn’t have his best stuff, but he was able to gut his way through six innings, allowing three earned runs. (Read More…)

Orioles shut out Rays, 6-0

The Baltimore Orioles continued their run of good starting pitching, getting a complete game shutout from Brad Bergesen in a 6-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bergesen could very well lose his spot in the starting rotation when Brian Matusz returns from the disabled list in the next couple of weeks, but he made a bid to stick around for awhile longer.

He was dominant, giving up just four hits, and the Rays rarely threatened to score.  It was his most impressive performance of the season to date and his first victory after six losses.

Maybe this is the turning point for Bergesen, who can be a very effective pitcher when he gets into a good rhythm and keeps the ball down in the strike zone.

The victory sets up the rubber match Sunday, with Jake Arrieta hoping to give the Orioles the series win. It would be a great way for the O’s to leave Tampa Bay with two shortened series upcoming against the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

Orioles swept away by Rays

The Baltimore Orioles lost their fifth straight game Sunday, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Orioles starting pitching finally seems to be cracking after a very solid first month of the season. The starters have to be feeling the pressure of pitching behind an offense that is scuffling to put runs on the board.

The Orioles have now dipped five games under .500, and they don’t have any choice but continue to run the same guys out onto the field to try and win games. You just have to believe that guys like Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis are going to hit at some point. (Read More…)
