Simon will not be released from prison

Baltimore Orioles reliever Alfredo Simon was expected to be released from prison after tests showed the fatal shot was not fired from his gun, but that request has been denied.

Simon has spent a couple of months in a Dominican jail after being accused of killing a man on New Year’s.

The right-hander had not been charged with any crime but was still able to be held in prison by police.

Simon stuck in prison

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon has been denied bail and could sit in prison for up to a year.

The right-handed reliever is being investigated for his role in a shooting on New Year’s that left one man dead and another injured.

Simon is pretty much certain to miss spring training at this point, and the entire season is in jeopardy.

He was a major part of the club’s bullpen last year, saving 17 games before becoming a setup man. (Read More…)

Orioles sign Duchsherer

The Baltimore Orioles have signed pitcher Justin Duchsherer to a one-year contract worth just over $1 million.

Duschererer chose the Orioles over a couple of other teams because they will give him a chance to compete for a spot in the starting rotation.

The Orioles are hopeful that the pitcher has fully recovered from hip surgery and can be their fifth starter.

He certainly has plenty of talent, having been twice named to the American League All-Star team. (Read More…)
