Roberts heading to disabled list
Just when it looked like Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts was finally healthy, he was hit by the injury bug once again.
Roberts, who missed nearly all of spring training with a back injury, strained his oblique sliding into second base and is likely heading for the disabled list.
The second baseman was removed from the game at the conclusion of the inning with newly acquired veteran Julio Lugo taking his place.
The injury will really hurt the Orioles offense because the team does not have another viable option as their leadoff hitter.
Felix Pie could see time out of the leadoff spot, but he doesn’t hit for nearly as high of an average as Roberts or foul off the same number of pitches.
